Using the OPC Web Client ActiveX Controls directly within Internet Explorer

The OPC Web Client ActiveX Controls are usable from within Internet Explorer directly. This means that your scripted web-page (running within Internet Explorer) will be communicating DIRECTLY to the OPC Server(s).

By incorporating the ActiveX within the web-page, the browser itself is maintaining its own connection to the OPC Server via COM/DCOM. This amounts to faster performance in terms of data acquisition from the OPC Server and eliminates unnecessary workload on the webserver because the webserver simply serves the web-page only.

Benefits at a glance

  • Processing occurs within the browser and not on the web-server, freeing-up webserver resources
  • Web page can be downloaded to any Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or newer) anywhere *
  • Each web-browser maintains its own connection to an OPC Server and is not dependanct upon a single entity.

* OPC connections between a client and server are managed by COM or DCOM (if client and server are on different computers). You will need to configure your DCOM security settings appropriately to allow remote communications to work correctly.
